A guided walk around Oakley Wood learning about moths and butterflies with local expert David Brown.
David is the author of a book on Warwickshire moths and serves as the moth conservation officer for Butterfly Conservation Warwickshire. His talk at our AGM was highly entertaining. With Oakley Wood being such an important butterfly site this is sure to be an excellent event.

My name Is Lisa Hornsey & my husband and I attended David Brown’s Moth & Butterfly walk this morning (Sunday 26th July). Unfortunately the weather was so appalling, the group decided not to proceed with the walk today. We would’ve been extremely lucky to see any butterflies anyway in such horrible conditions, but all was not lost!
David had set a moth trap to run last night and we all had such wonderful delight looking at all the beautiful moths in the trap and listening to David’s expertise on all the moths. All of a sudden the rain was forgotten about! Rob & I had just returned from David’s residential Moth & Butterfly course in Plas Tan Y Bwlch in Wales on Friday and we were keen to see how the different species compared. The first surprise for me was finding a Purple Hairstreak butterfly had found its way into the trap. That certainly made up for the absence of butterflies. I was also very excited to see a Ruby Tiger Moth, a truely beautiful moth and a new species for me.
A total of 27 species of Macro moth were recorded and here they are:

I have always been fascinated by moths and butterflies and thanks to David’s expertise and his fantastic courses, he has taught me all I know. It would be great to have another moth and butterfly walk in the very near future. Thank you Friends of Oakley Wood and thank you David.
