We kick off this year’s winter programme of practical tasks with some coppicing and woodland ride management. Coppicing is a traditional woodland management technique that produces a continuous supply of small diameter timber for things like fencing stakes, hurdle making and firewood. It’s also great for wildlife because it ensures diversity in the age and height of trees and shrubs in the wood, providing a range of different habitats.
As usual tools, tea and biscuits will be provided, and all activities explained. We do ask that people wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, and bring a waterproof in case of inclement weather.
Meet at the timber loading bay (map ref F8 (NGR: SP308594)) at 10.00. If you’re arriving by car, park in the lower Crematorium car park (map ref G1 (NGR: SP301595)) and walk over to the loading bay.
