For December’s practical task day we’ll be clearing along some of the woodland boundaries in preparation for hedgerow planting.
Improving the edge of the wood is a vital part of the management plan. The edges of a woodland are its most important habitat. A greater number of species inhabit the first 10 metres of any woodland edge or ride edge than inhabit the remainder of the woodland. Come along and help look after this vital aspect of Oakley Wood.
As usual tools, tea and biscuits will be provided, and all activities explained. We do ask that people wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, and bring a waterproof in case of inclement weather.
Meet at the timber loading bay (map ref F8 (NGR: SP308594)) at 10.00. If you’re arriving by car, park in the lower Crematorium car park (map ref G1 (NGR: SP301595)) and walk over to the loading bay.
