A reminder that the next (and last for this winter) volunteering day for helping in Oakley Wood is on Sunday 25th February, starting at 10.00. George has indicated that we will be doing some more coppicing and also starting some dead-hedging and pond revetment.
For anyone, like me, who doesn’t know what “revetment ” is, this is what Wikipedia has to say:
Revetment: in stream restoration, river engineering or coastal engineering is a facing of impact-resistant material applied to a bank or wall in order to absorb the energy of incoming water and protect it from erosion. River or coastal revetments are usually built to preserve the existing uses of the shoreline and to protect the slope.
All the details for attending are to be found here.
See you there!
