On 4 March we held our 6th Annual General Meeting. It was another successful evening with over 35 people present. Peter Byrd, retiring Chairman, talked about all that had happened during the year and how the working partnership between Warwick District Council, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and The Friends of Oakley Wood was working well. The ride management, currently in progress, is a necessary part of the management of the Wood but due to the very wet weather conditions, some remedial work is necessary to improve the rutting made by the heavy machinery. Wendy Barlow was elected as our new Chairman. She visits Oakley Wood most days and is very enthusiastic to see the wood returned to its former glory.
Following the AGM Karl Curtis from Warwickshire Wildlife Trust (WWT) entertained us with a talk on Warwickshire’s Woodlands which was enjoyed by all.
We are holding another Woodland Craft Day on Saturday 12 April from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm so come along and see traditional craftsmen at work. Additionally, WWT will be taking visitors on a BioBlitz where small groups will wander around the Wood discovering as many species of plants and animals as possible. Come along with a picnic and spend the day with us!
